Abuja, April 24, 2026 — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday swore in Dr Muttaqha Rabe Darma as the new Minister of Housing and Urban Development, following his confirmation by the National Assembly.
Leadership Change in Housing Ministry
Dr Darma replaces Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, who recently resigned from the Federal Executive Council. The swearing-in ceremony was held at the State House, Abuja.
President Tinubu described the appointment as coming at a “very challenging time of national development,” stressing the need for capable leadership in the sector.
President’s Charge
Congratulating the new minister, President Tinubu praised Dr Darma’s experience and track record.
“You have a very rich and interesting background. As a leader, we need competent hands like yours… you are a fitting peg in the right position,” the President said.
He further urged the minister to remain ready to serve the nation in any capacity required.
Profile of the New Minister
Dr Darma is a seasoned scholar and administrator with extensive experience in public service and development. His credentials include:
- Doctor of Business Administration, University of Liverpool
- PhD in Industrial Engineering, Atlantic International University (USA)
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bayero University Kano
- Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering, University of Benin
He is a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Management.
Public Service Experience
Dr Darma has held several key positions, including:
- Executive Secretary, Petroleum Technology Development Fund (2008–2012)
- Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport, Katsina State
- Commissioner for Rural and Social Development
Prior to his appointment, he served as President of the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua Human Development Centre in Katsina State and has also contributed to academia as a lecturer.
