The All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a stern warning to Yiaga Africa, a civil society organization accredited by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for elections, to desist from second-guessing the commission’s results on the Edo State governorship poll.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, emphasized that INEC was the sole statutory authority for conducting and declaring election results.

“Yiaga Africa is not, and must not constitute itself into, a parallel agency for the declaration of election results,” Morka stated.

The APC argued that Yiaga Africa’s report was based on statistical guesswork without hard facts and figures.

“Yiaga Africa’s report is a travesty, replete with methodological flaws, politicized observations, inconsistencies, inaccuracies, and calls its credibility into question,” Morka added.

    Electoral Controversy

The Edo state gubernatorial election has been marred by controversy, with allegations of vote buying and manipulation. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Yiaga Africa raised concerns about the disruption of the collation process, which they claimed violated established procedures.

However, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North Senatorial District, denied claims that the APC engaged in vote buying. The APC’s victory has been met with skepticism by some Nigerians, who question the legitimacy of the election results.

    APC’s Reaction

The APC also hailed the election outcome as an endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policies, which are transforming Nigeria’s economic landscape, strengthening security, and promoting good governance. “By their votes, the good people of Edo State were loud and clear in their choice of Senator Monday Okpebholo as the next Governor,” Morka said.

The APC has urged Yiaga Africa to refrain from creating unnecessary confusion and to respect INEC’s statutory authority. “Any disputes, contestations, or questions about the election may now be submitted to the courts for adjudication,” Morka concluded.
