The Presidential Committee on Implementation of Livestock Sector Reforms on Thursday submitted its report to President Bola Tinubu.

The president inaugurated the committee in July to address the farmer-herdsmen conflicts in the country.

The idea was also conceived to address obstacles to agricultural productivity and open up new opportunities for players in the sector.

The committee is headed by a former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega.

In a chat with State House correspondents after he presented the report to the president, Jega said the committee identified how the Federal Government can judiciously utilize the livestock industry to improve the country’s economy.

He added that the committee recommended solutions to the farmer/herdsmen clashes across the country.

The chairman pointed out that ranching and open grazing can coexist in the short term until the government comes up with adequate infrastructure to support the adoption of full ranching.
