The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has begun the distribution of sensitive materials to the 18 local government areas of Edo ahead of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.

The distribution process commenced at the premises of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in Benin on Thursday.

The materials were inspected by representatives of various political parties, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), and representatives of security agencies before dispatch.

The state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr. Onuoha Anugbum, said the exercise was to ensure hitch-free conduct of the election.

At least 16 parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Labour Party, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will field candidates in the election.

The REC said: “What we are moving out to the 18 local government areas today with the sensitive materials and we hope to see seamless conduct of the September 21 governorship election in Edo.”

He assured that all the materials would get to the local government offices of INEC by the end of Thursday.

Anugbum added that the materials would be moved to the Registration Area Centres (RAC) on Friday.
