Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has called for national unity and inclusive economic development as Nigeria celebrates its 64th independence anniversary.

Speaking during a special church service at the Government House Chapel on Sunday, Mbah emphasized that this milestone reflects the resilience of the Nigerian people.

The governor highlighted the crucial role of government in fostering democracy and noted that the nation can only prosper when all citizens feel included. “The message for us as a nation is to be united, to have an inclusive economic development, and I think that is where the economy of this country is headed,” Mbah stated.

He also urged Nigerians to support the administration of President Bola Tinubu and local leadership to achieve the country’s economic aspirations. “We are making steady progress. We may be making piecemeal progress. Perhaps what we need to review now is whether the marginal or incremental progress we are making is enough or whether we should obviously think about ways that we can deploy disruptive innovation to leapfrog some of the developmental challenges we are faced with,” he asserted.

In his homily, Wilfred Agubuchie, the Diocesan Secretary/Chancellor of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, called on political leaders to prioritize the common good in their governance. He praised Mbah’s innovative leadership, particularly highlighting the state’s tax reforms as a significant step toward fulfilling governmental responsibilities.
