Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, attributes the governor-elect Monday Okpebholo’s media silence during the campaign to their successful strategy.

“Monday communicated with the Edo electorate, and they decided. Our strategy worked, and that’s why the people voted,” Oshiomhole stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today, on Monday.

“I spoke about the quality of Monday and we got him to speak to the people about what he will do differently. He has to justify those who are voting for him. How will he be different from this rejected government? He has to speak to them and that is communication.

“But the mistake many TV hosts make is to assume that anyone who doesn’t appear before you, you exaggerate the import of television viewers.

“It’s not about not allowing him (to grant interviews); we are not in a position to compel anybody.”

He defended Okpebholo’s lack of media appearances and debate participation, citing that the All Progressives Congress (APC) couldn’t compel their candidate to grant interviews.

“Television interviews are exaggerated. The most potent means of communication is not television; radio has more reach,” Oshiomhole argued.

Okpebholo’s victory was announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Sunday, securing 291,667 votes against Asue Ighodalo’s 247,274 and Olumide Akpata’s 22,763.

Oshiomhole emphasized Okpebholo’s connection with the Edo Central Senatorial district and their collaborative efforts as key factors in their success.
