Former aide to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Lauretta Onochie, was again lambasted for spreading fake news after she posted the picture of a Georgia, USA lawmaker, Sen. Nikema Williams, during an arrest in in 2018, claiming to be that of the Canada-based Nigerian woman, Amaka Patience Sunnberger, who threatened to poison Yoruba and Benin people in a TikTok video.

Onochie who in the past, had been accused of spreading fake news on several occasions, posted the photo of Williams on her verified X account but the photo was immediately recognized by users who promptly pointed out that the photo was not that of Sunnberger.

While sharing the picture, Onochie had written:

“You don’t open your mouth anyhow in a society where the Police knows their job and work without interference.

“Amaka will now explain to the Police her devious plans to poison innocent Nigerians. She went too far with her #Obidiocy.”

Following the exposure of the fake photo, X Community minders reacted with this post:

“This handle is deliberately misinforming people in a bid to cause an ethnic argument. The woman in this photo is not Amaka, she was a senator in the US and the incident happened in 2018.”

In 2018, Onochie was caught in the web of spreading fake news when she shared an old picture and tagged it that of then opposition presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, sharing cash and food packs at a rally held by the PDP in Sokoto.

Following the rally, Onochie had taken to her Twitter handle to share a photo of food packs that had N500 attached to each with the caption: “KEEP THEM IN POVERTY, THEN GIVE THEM HANDOUTS- ATIKU in Sokoto yesterday”.

However, fact checks later revealed that the pictures were fake and actually belonged to a Lagos-based Charity foundation and had been in circulation years before.

In the same 2018, Onochie once got herself enmeshed in spreading falsehood and misrepresenting facts after she posted a picture of a road in the US claiming to be the rehabilitated Nasarawa-Jos Road which was later found to be false.
