The Imo State Police Command has taken into custody broadcaster Chinonso Uba, also known as Nonsonkwa, following a petition from a concerned citizen.

Uba’s arrest stems from allegations of cyberstalking, defamation and spreading misinformation regarding the National Open University (NOUN) Study Centre burning in Nsu, Ehime Mbano Local Government Area on September 30.

Police spokesperson Henry Okoye, in a press release issued on Monday, also clarified that Uba was not abducted and is currently detained at State Headquarters. Okoye assured that Uba will face court charges upon completion of a thorough investigation.

“The Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and maintaining peace and order in the state,” Okoye stated. “No individual involved in the tragic attack and burning of the NOUN study centre will escape full legal consequences.”

Uba had questioned TVC’s news broadcast suggesting Imo State be used as an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp instead of addressing insecurity in Ehime Mbano, where the NOUN study centre is located.

Naomisophyblog reports that suspected arsonists torched the NOUN study centre and former lawmaker Senator Frank Ibezim’s residence in early October.

“This unfortunate incident reflects a disturbing trend of violence undermining community safety and security,” the police stated. “The Command stands firmly against such acts and will ensure perpetrators face justice.”

The attacks followed a viral video claiming the Federal Government planned to renovate the NOUN facility for IDP training. The state government denied this report, which surfaced after Federal Commissioner Tijani Mohammed inspected the national training facility for vulnerable persons within the NOUN study centre.
