Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Sankara, is set to appear in a Kano court today over alleged infidelity.
Kano Hisbah Commission Director-General Abba Sufi, on Sunday, had confirmed Sankara’s arrest in an uncompleted building with a married woman.
“We received a distress call and swiftly intervened, arresting the commissioner,” Sufi said. “Our primary concern is maintaining moral standards and upholding the law.”
However, Sankara denied the allegations, calling them a “mischief” aimed at tarnishing his reputation. “This baseless accusation is designed to destroy my political career,” he stated. “I assure my supporters and the people of Jigawa that I will clear my name.”
Consequently, Governor Umar Namadi formed a five-member committee to investigate, chaired by Secretary to the State Government Malam Bala Ibrahim.

“The allegations are of serious concern, causing embarrassment and reputation degradation,” Ibrahim explained. “We’re compelled to investigate, ensuring transparency and integrity in our administration”, the SSG, Ibrahim said in a statement on Sunday.
Committee members include Commissioners Sagir Musa (Information), Lawal Danzomo (Basic Education) and Special Adviser Usman Muhammed (Security Matters). The committee has two weeks to submit findings.
“The government takes all allegations seriously, dedicated to upholding citizens’ trust,” Ibrahim emphasized.
Sankara’s suspension facilitates transparency and maintains state integrity. “This precautionary measure ensures fairness and prevents undue influence,” Ibrahim noted.
Jigawa State Government’s statement read further: “The decision comes in light of recent claims necessitating thorough examination for transparency and state administration integrity.”
