Police operatives in Imo on Sunday foiled an attack by suspected hoodlums on a divisional headquarters in Umuakah, Njaba local government area of the state.

The spokesman for the state police command, Henry Okoye, confirmed the attack in a statement on Monday in Owerri.

He said three of the hoodlums were killed in the operation.

Okoye said the attackers arrived at the headquarters with three Sport Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and launched a violent assault on the facility with sporadic gunfire.

“During the operation, our forces recovered one General Purpose Machine Gun, one AK-47 rifle, and three vehicles: a Toyota Lexus 470, a Mercedes GLK, and a Toyota Venza.”
