Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday, vehemently denied claims that he expressed willingness to be a vice presidential candidate to any particular candidate.

Obi made this clarification in a post on his X handle, following a recent interview with News Central TV, where he discussed his presidential ambition, the Labour Party, and Nigeria’s economic situation.

During the interview, Obi had emphasized his openness to working with other presidential candidates, provided their intentions were not centered on state capture.

However, he alleged that some individuals had distorted his words, misrepresenting his stance on the issue.

“I have been inundated with calls and concerns regarding the interview I granted to News Central TV… Some fifth columnists have resorted to propaganda, deliberately distorting the narrative,” Obi stated.

He reiterated his commitment to partnering with those who share his vision for advancing Nigeria’s progress, emphasizing that he remains dedicated to the Labour Party.

Obi also clarified that he never stated his willingness to be vice president to anyone, describing such claims as misrepresentation.

“My statement was unequivocal, and I am genuinely surprised by the misrepresentation of my words… I have consistently maintained that I am open to working with those committed to building a new Nigeria,” Obi said.

The former governor expressed his determination to see Nigeria work, reiterating that he is not desperate to become president. Obi also highlighted his ongoing contributions to Nigeria’s progress, even outside of office.

“My commitment to Nigeria remains steadfast, and I even believe it is possible to contribute to its progress without occupying any office as I am already doing,” he concluded.
