Gunmen on Tuesday evening abducted a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Mr. Benedict Akika.

He was abducted at his residence in Olorunda Abba, Lagelu local government area of the state.

Akika is a close associate of the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

The spokesman for the state police command, Adewale Osifeso confirmed the incident to journalists on Thursday in Ibadan.

Osifeso said the command had commenced an investigation into the matter.

He added that the people of the state would be adequately briefed as soon as the investigation of the incident was concluded.

“Investigation has commenced into the matter. Updates will be provided accordingly,” the spokesman said.
