The Nigerian Presidency has claimed that President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, is lying to Nigerians following Ajaero’s allegations that President Bola Tinubu betrayed labour leaders during negotiations for a new national minimum wage.

Ajaero had, on Tuesday, accused Tinubu of betraying labour leaders and Nigerians by increasing the petrol pump price after he had promised never to increase fuel price.

The NLC President, in a statement, had alleged that the labour leaders only accepted the N70,000 national minimum wage based on an understanding that the pump price of PMS would not be increased.

But while responding to the allegations, a Senior Special Assistant to the President on Print Media, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, debunked the accusations, saying that Tinubu never made an offer in exchange for fuel price hike.

Abdulaziz who made the clarification on Wednesday in a post on his X handle, @Abdulfagge, claimed he was in the last two meetings where Tinubu met with Labour leaders, and there was nowhere an offer was made in exchange of fuel price hike.

Describing Ajaero’s claims as “dirty politics” aimed at manipulating the emotions of Nigerians, Abdulaziz wrote:

“I sat through the two meetings President @officialABAT had with Labour leaders on minimum wage. At neither of the meetings was an offer made in exchange for the fuel price hike.

“Ajaero is once again playing his dirty politics with the emotions of Nigerians.”
