The National Economic Council (NEC) on Wednesday urged states yet to make submissions on the proposed state police to submit their reports by September 9.

The acting governor of Oyo state, Chief Adebayo Lawal, disclosed this to State House correspondents at the end of the 144th NEC meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said: “At today’s NEC meeting, an update for the establishment of state police was considered and this was as a result of security challenges that we have across the nation.

”To have robust security in our nation, NEC considered the establishment of a state police and asked states to make submissions for consideration.

“Today, all states were asked to submit reports for consideration of the NEC. Incidentally, four states didn’t submit.

“And for that purpose, NEC decided that all states must make their submission on or before Monday next week.

“Otherwise whatever decision NEC takes on the establishment of state police will be binding on those states that refuse to make submissions.”

President Bola Tinubu and governors of the 36 states on February 15 agreed on the establishment of state police as the solution to the country’s security challenges.

All the states except Adamawa, Kebbi, Kwara, and Sokoto have presented their reports on the matter to the NEC for implementation.
