The Senate has threatened to issue arrest warrants against several high-ranking individuals who have repeatedly ignored invitations to appear before its Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions.

    Officials Facing Arrest Warrants:

    – Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, Head of Service of the Federation

    – Senator David Umahi, Minister of Works

    – Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairperson of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM)

Additionally, heads of the following public agencies also risk arrest.

    – Union Homes Savings and Loans Plc

    – Enugu Electricity Distribution Company

    – Sally Best Properties Limited

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, Neda Imasuen, during plenary, on Friday, expressed frustration over the officials’ refusal to honor the Senate’s invitations, prompting the move.

“We’ve sent several invitations, but they’ve been ignored repeatedly,” Imasuen said.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio supported the decision, citing Section 89 of the 1999 Constitution which empowers the Senate to take such action.

“You already have the power… Please use it by issuing a warrant of arrest against any head of agencies refusing to appear before the public petition committee,” he stated.

Fresh letters of invitation have been sent to the affected officials with a warning that arrest warrants would be issued if they fail to appear before the lawmakers.
