The National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has shut down an illegal cosmetic factory at the Trade Fair Complex in Lagos State.

The agency disclosed this in a post on its X handle on Tuesday.

It said the factory was shut down after its operatives discovered various unregistered chemicals and packaging materials, along with expired products during a raid on the facility.

The products, according to NAFDAC, were being revalidated for sale.

The agency added that over 1,200 cartons of fake cosmetic products were seized by its operatives.

The items including mini-mixing containers, unlabelled chemicals, batch coding materials, and thinners have been confiscated and moved to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.

The post read: “The Agency estimates the street value of the confiscated items to be around ₦50 million.

“NAFDAC urges the public to be cautious when purchasing cosmetic products and report any suspicious activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.”
