Armed bandits on Thursday killed three soldiers and four police operatives along the Zamfara highway on Thursday.

The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dalijan, confirmed the development to journalists in Gusau.

He said a combined team of security agents was mobilised following reports of the bandits’ planned attack on a construction company along the highway.

The CP said the security agents raced to the scene, but the bandits laid an ambush and opened fire on them.

He stressed that the troops fought bravely to repel the attack.

Dalijan said: “The bandits had wanted to enter Setraco camp to abduct some staff of the company. We had the information, we sent our men not knowing that they had laid an ambush on the road.

“As we are going they met heavy resistance from the bandits, they opened fire, they exchanged gunfire and in the process, we lost some army personnel and police personnel too.”

“We lost three soldiers and four policemen.”
