Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced that the payment of the N70,000 minimum wage will begin next month.

During a meeting with principals and headteachers at the Prof. Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre in Awka on Thursday, Soludo shared this exciting news.

He also revealed that a free education policy will be introduced for senior students in all public schools starting next week.

In addition, he instructed that senior students who have already paid their N5,000 fees this term will be refunded, highlighting his administration’s ongoing efforts in human capital development.

Soludo stated, “Anambra State will commence the payment of the N70,000 minimum wage from next month. From next week, a free education policy will be available to senior students in all public schools in Anambra.

“I assure you that, even with the binding resource constraint, this administration will continue to work very hard to deliver on the mandate. From next month, we also hope to start paying the new minimum wage of N70,000. Students in senior classes who have already paid their N5,000 fees for this term should be refunded, and we promise to do more in human development.”

Since 2023, the Anambra State government has been implementing free education for pupils and students in public schools from Basic to Junior Secondary School levels. This new initiative will ensure continued access to free education for all primary pupils and junior and senior secondary school students in the state.
