If asked to participate in an inquiry of the operations of his administration, Edo Governor Godwin Obaseki has stated that he would be happy to respond to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Mr. Obaseki said, “I’m not scared of the EFCC,” at Thursday’s EdoBEST National Results-Sharing Session in Abuja.

Mr. Obaseki, whose two-term governorship was set to expire on November 12, maintained that he had nothing to conceal and would turn himself in to the anti-graft organization.

Why ought I to be? The key is to stay focused. You can see the results of my decision to ignore the noise and focus on what I believed to be important when I arrived at work today. I have nothing to hide, therefore if the EFCC calls, I will turn myself in,” Mr. Obaseki said.

His remarks were made in the midst of former Kogi Governor Yahyah Bello’s fraud allegations after she disregarded invitations from the EFCC and former Delta Governor Ifeanyi Okowa’s arrest for allegedly diverting N1.3 trillion.

Mr. Obaseki, meantime, emphasized the significant achievements of his government, particularly in the field of education, during the ceremony.

The APC-led federal government should change its focus and take the necessary action, the governor said, lamenting the existential problems facing Nigerians.

“It is to listen to the pointless and foolish petitions of the opposition. Making Nigeria great and concentrating on our people are what really count. It’s too much suffering. Instead of concentrating on trivial matters like vendettas, we fortunate people ought to concentrate on having a constructive influence,” Mr. Obaseki continued.
