    41 dead, 12 rescued in Zamfara boat mishap

    At least 41 people died in a boat accident at Gummi town, Gummi local government area of Zamfara State on Saturday.

    The Director of Emergency at the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA), Hassan Dauran, confirmed the incident to journalists in Gusau.

    He said the boat was carrying 53 people including children when it capsized.

    12 passengers were rescued alive by emergency responders who rushed to the scene after the incident.

    A member of the House of Representatives from Gummi-Bukkuyum Federal Constituency, Suleiman Gummi, also confirmed the incident in a statement.

    He commiserated with the families of the victims of the accident.

    “I received with a rude shock the tragic news of a canoe capsizing accident in Gummi.
